Croix is a fairly mountainous island with views of the harbor from the hills, a potential mountain/jungle view from your Air Bnb and hikes you can do that take you along the coastline. Though I can’t say what it would be like during the middle of rainy season. So it wasn’t that all-day rain, it was more of an afternoon or morning shower, then the sun would come out again. The good part about it though was that it cooled it off when we were doing some hikes and then didn’t really stick around. We ended up going in May and did encounter some rain. You’re more likely to encounter rain during hurricane season which is May-November, but December-April is peak season. The great thing about these islands is that there isn’t a huge change between seasons, temperature wise. Croix you have Buck Island Reef (National Monument), Christiansted (National Historic Site) and Salt River Bay (National Historic Park and Ecological Preserve). There are also several national park sites throughout the islands.
The three main islands are mountainous with stunning coastlines and beautiful beaches. These Caribbean islands are located directly east from Puerto Rico and yes, because they are US territories, you won’t need a passport to visit if you are a US citizen. The purchase was a strategic move for the US, so they could improve military positions during WWI. They were under Danish rule until 1917 when the US purchased the islands for 25 million. Croix (as well as a handful of smaller islands including Water Island, which is sometimes referred to as the 4th island). The US Virgin Islands are comprised of three main islands: St. A tour to Buck Island is one of the top things to do in St. We wanted a place that felt a little adventurous and one where we could do a lot of exploring. One that wasn’t filled with resorts and jet ski rentals. Now, our ideal getaway may not be your ideal getaway but we were really hoping for an island that was a little off the beaten path. But once we started doing our research and looking up things to do in St Croix, we were pretty convinced this would be our ideal getaway. Croix besides the fact that the flights were inexpensive and direct. My husband and I started looking for places to go in the Caribbean two weeks before we would be going. I found out I had another day off around Memorial Day weekend, and that was that. Croix started off as one of those, “Oh we have a long weekend? We should go somewhere,” instances. The room was cute and clean but not what you might expect on a Marriott property. Our trip to St. Something near our room (maybe a hotwater heater) leaked and the floor outside the room was always wet and sometimes kind of nasty. The property was in need of some upkeep and they are in the process of renovating. I don't know what that garbage was with our coffee maker but it tasted absolutely awful! The coffee in the restaurant was fine and you can get it to go. One thing to be cautious about if you are a coffee drinker, don't make coffee in your room. The breakfast buffet was pretty good with omelets to order, potatoes, bacon, sausage, and waffles. The service wasn't the speediest but not near as bad as the reviews made it sound. Regarding meal service: The two times we ate dinner at the resort we were pleased with our food and drinks. Unlike some reviews stated, we had no problems getting fresh linens or getting our room serviced. There has been a lot of negative reviews on this property, especially post-pandemic, so we went in with low expectations on service. The snorkeling and diving was absolutely fabulous and the hike was beautiful. The resort has its own private trail to Annaly Tide Pools and an onsite dive shop. First the positives: The spot on the island where this property sits is absolutely gorgeous.
